Cool trip! I love Paris – need to go back. Oh, and bravo for ordering the Steak Tartar – you’re braver than I – being used to the American way where you can’t hardly order a medium rare burger, it’s pretty nuts to see what looks like raw ground beef on the plate. Sounds pretty good really.

And yeah, the late sunlight thing is pretty crazy – esp. to have such mild climate at that latitude – thanks Gulf Stream!

I avoided the Tower of London as being too touristy the first couple times I was in London, but we found ourselves there a couple years ago, so figured we might as well go in. I LOVED it, and was sorry we didn’t have more time there.

Wow, I hadn’t heard that! That is an interesting idea. I still feel that the state will not give the city of Raleigh the Dix property in order to save it to be a DHHS HQ campus. The fairgrounds is a funny place, and part of me feels like it belongs out where it is because it is kind of a dead zone for most of the year (weekend flea market notwithstanding) and the parking out there is decent (though the Saturday where the fair overlaps with a NCSU football game is always an absolute nightmare). I am not sure if we would want such a dead zone downtown. You are right in that there are some nice historic buildings, but I am sure they could be moved.
Actually, you know where the fairgrounds could be moved? The area at the intersection of Wake Forest Road and 6 Forks, where the old Lowes Foods (now a gym is there) I think all of those buildings over there are empty, old IBM or something. That area is need of some serious love. I know its getting a new trader Joes, but it would be a great site for something neat like the fairgrounds.
